After recently purchasing a new camera (Nikon D50), I set up this blog to encourage myself to use it often. Most of the pictures will be from the Chicago area, probably mostly from the northside, but who knows, I'll probably throw some random ones up here also.

And so it begins

Here we go. As I said in the description, I set up this blog to make sure I make good use of my new camera. It's sort of an incentive to make my purchase worthwhile, a public way to make sure I don't ignore my new, expensive, toy! Anyway, I'll try to do at least one post a week.

These are the first few shots from the camera. These were taken right after I took the camera out of the box, no adjustments, just what the camera will produce in it's completely automatic mode. Nothing special. Hopefully as time goes on, the pictures get more creative, or at least more interesting!

Here is a closeup of a tasty local beverage! Wanted to get the white dish there in the background to see how the camera handled a shiny, bright white object next to some dark objects using the flash. Not too bad, especially for using default settings.

Closeup of a lampshade, using a telephoto lens (80-300, I believe) from across the room. Gave me great detail on the knitting of the shade. Nice tight focus area also.

Another picture of the Goose Island, this time focusing more on the labeling. Looking to see what kind of detail I get on a close up of fine print.
